Why does Zoseco have a Why Page? We strive to stay 100% true to our mission. To make lasting change, we must stay true to our vision and everything we do at Zoseco should help encouraging positive growth in the community. If you see us doing something that doesn’t match our mission, we politely ask that you let us know.
Why is Zoseco in Valparaiso? We started in Valpo because the founder wanted to move back to his hometown after his military commitment-this is part of Eric’s attempt to help out the community.
Why is Zoseco located downtown? We feel the best chance for positive growth is being located in a central location, to make it part of the core in Valpo. We thought being in the heart of the community would allow us the chance to make the biggest difference, bring the most people and connect best with the community.
Why did we pick an office that’s hidden from foot traffic? We wanted to ensure our members are free from the distractions of random foot traffic. By being right downtown, but shielded from the walking traffic, we’re able to mitigate a lot of stop-in distractions. Additionally, through picking a location that isn’t directly accessed on the square, we’re also able to save tremendously on costs. Since this is a non-profit, those savings are passed along to our members!
Why are there so many stairs? The space in our price point is actually two different buildings connected. Through the entrance on Washington St, we enter a two story building that is a completely different building than the three story building where we’re located. Since the second story of each building is at a different height-we have to take the stairs from one second story to the other second story and then up to the third level. It starts to make more sense by the second time you visit, guaranteed!
Why isn’t there an elevator? The building we’re connected to was actually built in 1870. When the building was renovated in the 1990s, the elevator was only installed in the two story building and not our three story building. The history of the buildings is really fascinating, but we will jump on an opportunity to move to a space with handicap access as soon as it happens. The initial space was chosen due to the location downtown and being within our budget. We want to enable the opportunity for more folks to use our space, and are happy to consider changing locations in the future.
Why are some of the walls orange? We painted some of the walls orange to help the space feel energized, focused, and creative. We felt red would be too strong without creativity, yellow wouldn’t feel right, blue and green don’t have the energy we’re looking for. Plus, plain white and off-white are just boring.
Why are there standing desks? We find that we’re more productive when we mix things up. Standing sometimes and sitting other times helps us stay flexible both physically and mentally.
Why don’t we offer secretary or receptionist services? We haven’t tried it yet, but if it helps members with their businesses, then we’ll figure it out!
If you’d like to ask us why, please do!. We’ll update this page as often as we get questions. If you don’t think one of our answers here doesn’t really reflects our ‘why’, then please, please, please let us know below. Thank you so much for taking the time to hear us out. Feel free to say hello below 🙂
